We offer a Montessori education, in the Candler Park neighborhood, and  would like to invite you to come and visit our school, International Montessori Academy, located at 1240 Euclid Avenue NE., Atlanta, Ga 30307. Please come see our new Elementary Class that started in August of this year. Visit the rest of our classes, too. We have a Nido class, a Toddler class,  2 Primary Classes, and our Elementary Class.

Our school is housed in an original church building that was refurbished and is surrounded by beautiful green space. The classrooms are bright and spacious. We are creating an international community by having staff and families from different countries and exposing children to different languages, while offering an AMI Montessori education. Our mission is to nurture the potential of the whole child. Come visit this little school that is growing in your neighborhood.

End of the Year Celebration 2014/2015

International Montessori Academy had a wonderful year! We started the 2014/2015 year with a new name that encompassed our beliefs and vision. We were excited to get involved within the Candler Park community and support local businesses such as: Sevanada, GoVinda's, Aurora Coffee, Village Pizza, the Corner Tavern, etc. Throughout the year we had a successful Fall Festival, International Pot Luck Dinner, and Earth Day Market Celebration. We had opportunities to celebrate birthday's, holidays, ceremonies, and the births of new siblings. Our school has grown this year with wonderful new families in each of our classrooms. The growth has supported the opening of our new Lower Elementary Program and second Primary Classroom for the fall of 2015/2016.

During the End of the Year Celebration, we were able to connect children, staff, friends, and families. The children prepared songs for everyone in attendance. During the recognition of each class, we were able to see the growth of our IMA children. We celebrated moving up ceremonies for children in our Nido, Toddler, and Primary Classrooms. We celebrated children completing a 3 year cycles in Primary as they transitioned to new places for next year. For an added treat, we were able to see the hard work from IMA's first violin class perform multiple songs during our celebration.

Thank you for all the songs, laughs, hugs, high-fives, lessons, shared meals, and so much more in 2014/2015. We look forward to what is ahead and will see you next year!

Primary Graduate Field Trip

This year 5 children completed a 3 year cycle in the Lotus Classroom. As recognition of their hard work, the children were invited to a special meal at Plant Bombay's (a favorite of IMA Staff) located in Little Five Points. The children were able to walk to the restaurant and practice reading the menu, ordering, sharing a meal, and having a lot of fun in the process. Congrats graduates!

Last Earth Day Celebration, our school planted 8 strawberry plants for our classroom gardens. This year, our strawberry plants have multiplied exponentially! The strawberries have even jumped into a new garden bed all by themselves. Last year, we were only able to have strawberries for snack every once in a while, as we waited for the 8 plants to grow. Now,  each class is able to have a plentiful amount of strawberries to enjoy each week for the morning and afternoon snack.

Happy Mother's Day

The Lotus Class made a special gift for all moms, grandmothers, friends, and significant role models to celebrate Mother's Day. Mother's Day was first celebrated and promoted in the United States in the early 1900's by Anna Jarvis. Anna wanted to to recognize her own mother's life and the important role of mothers everywhere. Over the years, the movement led to a National Holiday and celebrating Mother's Day all around the world.

The Lotus Class showed their thankfulness for these important role models through planting and decorating flower pots. Each child painted a terracotta pot and planted perennial flowers.

Earth Day Celebration

On Saturday, April 18th, International Montessori Academy hosted a Earth Day Celebration Market. The Earth Day market was a way to support local farmers and artisans from around the Metro Atlanta Area. The day was also used as a Spring planting day for our grounds. We were able to to plant:18 trees, 6 garden beds, 2 flower beds, and construct one very cool sandbox for the Primary playground. We accomplished all of our goals and had a great time. Thank you for all of your hard work. Below are pictures from the event, as well as, contact information from all of our Earth Day Market Vendors.

The Farm

Did you know the Primary classroom has been visiting a farm? The farm is so close that the children can even walk to it! The farm is in the Primary's very own courtyard! Recently, some of the older Primary children have been introduced to an activity called The Farm. The Farm is used to identify sentence structure. Using figurines, the Lead Guide is able to write sentences describing farm animals and the children are ask to find the animal corresponding to prompt. The sentences are used as a platform to help the children connect the "what", "which," and "how" to each word. Without knowing it, the children are breaking down sentences into articles, adjectives, and nouns. As the activity progressed, the Lead Guide introduced different symbols and colors to represent each word in the sentence, signifying a visual representation of their meaning. At the end of this experience, the children were encouraged to make and mix up their own sentences into something new. The children thought that some sentences like "Brown the cow," were pretty funny.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration in the Lotus Class

Did you know a shamrock is a young sprig of clover? Did you know that St. Patrick  is the patron saint of Ireland? Did you know clovers start to  bloom in spring? Did you know Ireland is located in Europe? These were some of the question asked by the  Lotus Class leading up to Saint Patrick's Day.  Today,  the Lotus Class celebrated St. Patrick's Day by collecting and pressing clovers. The Lotus Class was able to collect various size clovers as a group within their courtyard. Each child was able to press two flowers. The children used parchment and a large book to press and preserve their flowers.
